Employees from Sodexo’s defence business have raised £12,630 for charity through the company’s Challenge 1914.
Employees at Sodexo, the world’s largest services company, were joined by clients across the UK, Cyprus and the Falkland Islands to take part in the challenge to commemorate 100 years since the First World War and to support the current armed forces community.
In total, 1,044 people participated walked, cycled, rowed and ran 1,914 miles in one day with their team, to raise money for Sodexo’s Stop Hunger campaign and the Soldiers’, Sailors’ and Airmen’s Families’ Association (SSAFA). The total distance covered by the teams was 16,428 miles.
SSAFA provides lifelong support to the Armed Forces, offering practical, emotional, and financial support to any individual who is serving, has served and to their families. Meanwhile, launched in 1996, Sodexo’s global Stop Hunger initiative aims to tackle hunger and malnutrition in the local communities where the company operates. In the UK and Ireland, the Sodexo Foundation (a registered charity) is the driving force behind the Stop Hunger initiative.
Andy Leach, managing director of Sodexo Defence said, “This is a fantastic achievement, I am very proud of all those that took part.
We pride ourselves on working with local communities, both military and civilian and Challenge 1914 is a great example of how our teams can work with our customers and clients to raise money for two excellent charities Our teams are spread across the UK and overseas and this event has brought a real team spirit to everyone who took part, wherever they are based.”
