Lux Intelligent, the emergency lighting testing system from Advanced saves time and money compared to manual and other addressable light testing systems.

The company is so confident of this that it has developed an online savings calculator to show you the numbers.

When lights are tested manually, an engineer has to physically walk around a building and cut power to the emergency lights, forcing them to operate on their secondary supply. He or she then needs to reinstate the mains power and confirm that the batteries are charging properly. This is a very time-consuming and tedious task that is not always completed accurately or reliably.

In addition, it is not practical to disable the power for whole swathes of a building during normal operational hours, so the process has to be staggered or done outside of office hours. Added to that, no area of a building can be left without emergency lighting for the period after a test while the batteries are recharging, because if there is a real emergency during this recharge period those areas of the building would be left with limited or no emergency lighting.

Automatic testing using Lux Intelligent simplifies the entire process and is incredibly cost-effective, especially when using its cloud-based monitoring option via mobile or web app, which completely does away with the need for compiling manual reports and allows you to manage your system and maintenance from your phone.

To prove this Advanced has developed its online savings calculator. Here is an example:

For a building with one Lux Intelligent panel and 150 standard luminaires (emergency lights) and assuming an annual salary/cost of a maintenance engineer at £39,000 p.a. performing manual daily checks – after just one year there is a saving of over £5,700 (year one includes installation) and after five years the saving is an incredible £80,000.

About Lux Intelligent

Lux Intelligent is an addressable, automatic test system that shows all emergency lighting is compliant and functioning, with no engineer intervention required. It can be easily networked and retrofitted onto existing wiring and luminaires, keeping installation costs to a minimum. It offers a host of unique technical features and proves compliance with BS 5266-1 and BS EN 50172.

It works with almost any light, including LEDs, from almost any manufacturer and can be easily added to existing wiring, offering considerable savings on installation and maintenance costs. It works with any existing installation including central battery and static inverter systems. Each panel has up to four loops, each supporting 249 luminaires. The system has an extensive set of testing strategies that include not only current and voltage monitoring, but also direct light level measurement via fibre optics.

Panels can be networked together using standard cabling (up to 200 panels) or via the cloud (unlimited) allowing large sites or multiple sites to be easily managed and monitored.

With the cloud monitoring feature, test data is stored securely in the cloud and the system delivers live details on status, faults, test failures and advisories from a smartphone or via a web browser, allowing users to monitor all their sites, anywhere in the world, right down to individual devices. Users can share the sites or panels with engineers and maintenance staff and e-mail maintenance and test reports in one click. It offers many advantages from more visibility of issues to easier management and allows fewer people to manage more sites, in less time.
