The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) will be holding expert-led workshops for the first time alongside its Occupational Health and Safety Award celebrations next month.
Held across two days and running alongside the award presentations, RoSPA’s Health and Safety Learning Hub: Building on Excellence will offer workshops covering key topics, such as legal updates, worker involvement and accident investigation.
It will be launched during the charity’s internationally-recognised awards ceremonies, which will be held at Birmingham’s Hilton Metropole Hotel, on Wednesday, May 14 and Thursday, May 15.
Delegates and award winners are being encouraged to choose from eight one-hour sessions, covering leadership and liability and practical tools, while attending as few or as many sessions as they can fit in.
Guest speakers at the workshops will include Paul Hayward, casualty risk management specialist at Allianz Insurance, Derek McMillan, Springfields Fuels’ site behavioural safety coordinator, Dee Arp, of the National Examination Board in Occupational Safety and Health (NEBOSH) and Andrew Kemp of Tesco Dotcom, among others.
Sessions will include talks on how to make effective use of accident information, detail on the legal landscape affecting health and safety and fleet management.
There will also be discussions on how to effectively lead on safety culture, the cost of accidents to an organisation and environmental management.
And health and safety professionals will have a chance to build on their knowledge and skills as well as topping up their Continual Professional Development (CPD).
The Hub will also give award winners the opportunity to make the most out of their day out the office by showing commitment to health and safety while boosting skills.
Karen McDonnell, RoSPA’s occupational safety and health policy adviser, said: “We are thrilled to be launching The Health and Safety Learning Hub at the Birmingham awards.
“The Building on Excellence workshops are a key way for health and safety professionals to deepen their knowledge and demonstrate their commitment to developing a high level of health and safety.
“Our inspirational workshops will not only offer valuable learning, but will allow professionals to draw inspiration from others as they continue to work towards their next health and safety goal.”
