Practical solutions on how to respond following an accident or death in the workplace will be discussed at a legal seminar being hosted by the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA).
The RoSPA Health and Safety Legal Seminar 2014, being held at thestudio in Manchester, on Wednesday, November 26, will also provide a valuable insight into the changing legal landscape of health and safety.
The informative programme will feature experts and practitioners from the health and safety field who will share knowledge and best practice to help employers manage a crisis effectively.
Speakers on the day will include Martin Lamb, health and safety manager at sugar supplier British Sugar, who will discuss the company’s tragic fatality case. A 40-year-old employee was run-over by a shovelling vehicle at the firm’s factory in Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk, in 2003.
There will also be a session on “must-know” legislation to help keep employees safe, by Sally Roff, partner at legal firm DAC Beachcroft Claims, while Karen McDonnell, RoSPA’s occupational health and safety policy adviser, will give a talk on understanding risks.
Delegates will also get the chance to have their say in a live debate with industry leaders.
Dr McDonnell, who will also be chairing the event, said: “We are delighted to be hosting the Health and Safety Legal Seminar this year, giving delegates working across the health and safety field an insight into good practice in the workplace.
“The informative programme will include thought-provoking content, practical advice as well as key legal updates. Accidents can occur to any organisation at any time and it’s important to know exactly how to respond.
“We are inviting anyone who has an interest in health and safety to come along to the seminar and take advantage of a tremendous networking opportunity and meet other like-minded health and safety practitioners.”
