RoSPA launches new award for sport and leisure industry
The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) has expanded its renowned awards scheme to recognise high standards across the leisure industry.
Organisations working within the broad leisure and fitness sector are being urged to demonstrate their health and safety commitment for a chance to win the new Leisure Sector Award.
They have until December 3 to register for the accolade at RoSPA’s 2013 Occupational Health and Safety Awards, which recognise outstanding work towards preventing accidents and ill health.
Judges will look closely at measures taken to protect staff, members of the public and customers through health and safety management practices, consistent excellence, efforts to continuously improve performance, and an example of a particular initiative or project to support the entry.
David Rushton, head of education and leisure at RoSPA, said: “RoSPA is delighted to launch a new award focussing on the leisure industry, which is one of the UK’s fastest growing sectors.
“This new award is open to any leisure facility operators from private fitness companies to local authorities and will focus primarily on customer safety as members of the public are the main people affected by safe operations at these establishments.
“It offers an ideal way for companies in the leisure industry to demonstrate commitment to high health and safety standards for their customers and clients.”
The winner of the Leisure Sector Award will also receive the right to use the renowned RoSPA award logo on corporate stationery and its website.
RoSPA’s Occupational Health and Safety Awards scheme was launched in 1956 and is now the largest and longest-running programme of its kind in the UK.
This year, entrants will submit their entries online, through the RoSPA website, for the first time using state-of-the-art web technology.
The RoSPA Awards 2013 are sponsored by NEBOSH – the National Examination Board in Occupational Safety and Health. It is the eighth year that NEBOSH has sponsored the Awards.
